HealthSouth Altoona Becomes Recertified in Five Disease-Specific Programs
During the week of January 23, 2017, a surveyor from The Joint Commission visited HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona to conduct a bi-annual recertification survey on all five of HealthSouth Altoona’s disease-specific programs - brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, cardiac and orthopedic rehabilitation programs.
A surveyor is required to conduct a survey every two years on the pre-existing programs in order to ensure that each program continues to focus on providing safe and high quality care for each patient. According to The Joint Commission, they “accredit and certify more than 21,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.” At the end of the week, HealthSouth Altoona was pleased to announce that they earned a recertification in each of the five disease-specific programs.
After a quality care meeting that was held in the summer of 2016, the decision was made to pursue a sixth certification in Advanced Inpatient Diabetes. The HealthSouth team recognized the high number of the western Pennsylvania population that have diabetes and came to a consensus that the program would greatly benefit their patients. “We continue to grow as a rehabilitation hospital by focusing on the health care needs of our patients and offering outstanding care to our community,” said Scott Filler, CEO. HealthSouth Altoona can proudly announce that they received their sixth disease-specific care certification in Advanced Inpatient Diabetes in February 2017.
